What Ivy wants, Ivy gets

Are we moving towards degeneracy?

Though many of you might call me pedlar of the new age philosphy but sometimes it is better to be practical. For years the natural balance of nature has kept a check over the population. Whenver there has been a high birth rate it was offset by famines. When there has been a plague or an epidemic, it was the weak who were wiped out and strong survived. Hence there was always a natural balance maintained.- nature's level. And because of this it was the strong who perpetuated themselves. They were the ones who sired the next generation.

Now, at least in the western world, we are heading towards degeneracyl. We are preserving the cripples, the weaklings, and the disease-ridden. We are accumulating burdens on society, non-producers- the unfit, unable to contribute anything to the common good. Tell me- what purpose does a sanatorium or a home for incuralble serve? Infact medicine today is preserving people who should be allowed to die. But we're helping them to live, then letting them spawn and multiply, passing their uselessness to their children and theri children's children.

Strength is of mind as well as body. Don't children inherit the mental charaacteristics of their parents - and their weaknesses? Though not all but a lot of the time they do. And it is the reason that we have so many mental hospitals. And patients in them. And people running to psychiatrists. It is just that we are breeding people who are weak, weak, weak!

Hey if anyone of you are not liking my idea please do not spare me. I can handle the criticism and arguments.

Now many of you might be of the view that illness and disease haven't come to us in a natural course of nature. They're the result of man's own environment, conditions he's created himself. Bad sanitation, lack of hygiene, air polllution - and all the other man's creation. But what i feel is: 'They are part of evolution and evolution is a part of nature'. It all adds up to the balancing process.

In the end I would say that if nature were left alone it would settle its problems before they arose - by natural selection of the fittest. Though I may seem to be a peddlar of new age philosphy but we need to take an open-minded stance on it because the time is not far away when we would have decelerated the death rate of the population to an extent that might create a similar situation everywhere like what is prevailing in European nations where the average age of the population is too high. And the condition of some of these countries is not hidden from anyone. They are just struggling for a new breed of people- energetic, young and strong. Hence it is necessary to do a trade off between the two contrary views.
